A Letter

Dear Pip,

Meemaw, Noah, and I were walking through the hospital, and there were lots of small rooms coming from that big hallway.  It had shiny floors.  After a twenty minute walk, we finally came to the room!  I was so excited!

We went into a tiny room with shiny floors just like the hallway.  I finally got to see Elisha!  He was half the size he is now, and so dark and wrinkly!  On the bouncer he was on level one and six inches off the ground.  He had to have a box under his feet!

It was a joyful time when I got to hold him.  Elisha is not one year and seven months.  So big!

Love,

Mathemagician

If I Were in Charge of the World

If I Were in Charge of the World

(a form change poem with thanks to Judith Viorst)

If I were in charge of the world,

I’d cancel homework, mushrooms, and also messing up my room with dirty underwear.

If I were in charge of the world,

there would be more clean rooms,

More ice cream sundaes,

And lots of maraschino cherries.

If I were in charge of the world,

You wouldn’t have mechanical pencils,

You wouldn’t have lots of books,

And you wouldn’t have history.

If I were in charge of the world,

Ice cream, chicken, apple pie, chocolate milkshakes, and water

Would be a balanced meal.

All people would be wanting ME as their master.

And a person who sometimes has cake for all meals

And sleeps in until lunchtime

Would still be allowed to be

In charge of the world.

Snowflakes!

Snowflakes, snowflakes,

What a tiny thing.

Get out of the way!

I need spring!

Snowflakes, snowflakes,

Why are you growing?

I told you to get going!

Snowflakes, snowflakes,

I’m so glad you’re shrinking!

I hope your brothers and sisters

Start sinking!

Snowflakes, snowflakes,

I’m so glad you’re leaving.

I think my teacher is grieving.

Snowflakes, snowflakes,

Get on going!

I can’t wait for the grass

To get on growing!

Corps of Discovery

A movie? A store? No, the Corps of Discovery! The waterfalls were foaming like crazzzy! Scagawea climbed the waterfalls and sat on top of them. She had a walking stick with a deer antler tied to the top. I sat where it was soft and calm. My boots filled with water as I watercolor painted a rainbow. I wish we could paint on rocks. I couldn’t play the recorder, no matter how much I tried. I liked the watercolor painting. It opened my drawing cabinet for God. The water amazed me in its foamy color.

We got to go in the river and discover macroinvertebrates. We also went on a hike. I chose the mountain goat one. So did Maggie. The slope was almost straight down. Brooke had longer legs than me, and I was the first one up! Brooke was the last. She didn’t want to get dirty, but I kept saying, “Get dirty!”

You might want to try it yourself!

Poppy and Prince

By Kelly McKain

This book was made in 2011. The main character is Poppy. Other characters are Jody, Sally, Jennifer, and Millie. The setting is in the country at a smelly pony camp. It had very large field and rows and rows of stables.

A problem is that Poppy is scared to ride a horse because she had a bad fall and broke her arm.

The plot of the story is that Poppy had a bad fall and doesn’t want to go riding. She gets mad at Jennifer because she thinks she should get back riding. On a walk she fell off her horse, and everything was better.

Mrs. Shedd

I love Mrs. Shedd because she is kind, loving, and helps us in math and reading.  She is kind enough to take her vacation day with us.  She even sews stuffed animals, pillows, bags, and aprons with us.  She leaves me speechless about how she acts and such a gentle voice.  She comes on field trips with us.  What a wonderful teacher helper!  I love Mrs. Shedd.  🙂

Miss Blessing

Miss Blessing is the best teacher ever because she is cheery and likes engineering.  I like engineering too.  She is very kind, especially when she gives me cough drops when I have a sore throat.  She gives out privileges like the castle, window seats, and computer time.  If we are doing our homework and schoolwork okay, we can do things like engineering, art, and Phys. Ed.  Miss Blessing has lots of space in her room for sixteen kids.  She has lots of fun things like the forest, science projects, tests, H.O.T. passes, and field trips.  Once your H.O.T. pass is filled with twenty hole punches for doing your homework, you get a coupon for things like helping the preschoolers or a prize.  I love Miss Blessing!

I’m from New York to Vermont.

I’m from French and Spanish prayers at the dinner table.

I’m from reading, swimming and playing in the rain.

I’m from math, science, engineering and snow mountains.

I’m from old picks and broken plows in the woods.

I’m from the smells of eggs to pancakes to bunny to chicken

To waffles to chicken poop to sweat to wood to dirty clothes to bunnies

And red velvet cake.

Last, I’m from holding my little brother for the first time.
